2010 Schedule
Children's classes (4yrs-13yrs old)
At Yoons Martial Arts School, we don't believe in just teaching children how to punch, kick and grapple. We work to help build your child's character and moral foundation. During classes, you'll see your child's energy, confidence, and spirit rise while he or she becomes strong and confident. Our program can and WILL help your child increase their confidence, self-esteem, discipline, and manners while teaching them life skills that will last them their lifetime.
In our program you child will be able to progress at their own pace, under our proven curriculum. We understand that everyone learns differently. No matter if your child can only train once a week or every-day we have the program that will fit your needs. Our curriculum is based on the individual not on a group. We believe that to build a child’s confidence we need to help them feel empowered. When children at our school get promoted to the next level, it is not because they held a belt for a certain length of time. Instead we teach them a curriculum and they get tested on that curriculum, when they pass they feel true accomplishment instead of an empty success.
Here is a testimonial from a former student of our school who moved to another province. This testimonial was written 7 years after the boy left our school.
Hello instructor Bobby. You may not remember me, but my name is Sean Davis and I spent a few years at the school before I was forced to leave because of a move. I miss Hapkido more than I can really convey. When I got here to New Brunswick about six years ago, I joined a Tae Kwon Do school. Within three years I had gained my black belt. It felt like an empty win, however. Sure, I won quite a few tournaments and was a really good fighter overall, but overall I missed Hapkido and yours and Kelly's teachings. The school I joined didn't push me as hard, advanced me too easily through the belt systems, and didn't challenge me overall. It is also as if I didn't really learn anything other than a couple sparring techniques and some forms. In Hapkido we learned self-defense, controlled no-contact sparring, and do a lot of fun things. At this school, we did some half-assed warm-ups and then do forms and sparring. It was just the same thing, day in day out. Two years ago it dawned on me, I had joined a Mcdojo. They don't teach you much and everyone advances, no matter how bad they are. The biggest thing, the biggest thing I miss about Hapkido was the discipline, honor and that what you taught was self-defense and not pure sport. You do not know how much Hapkido has affected my life, and I want to thank you for all you have given me. I will keep up my martial arts training, even if I have to do it myself. I hope someday I can either return to the school or find an instructor at least half as good as you. Thank you so much.

CLASS DESCRIPTION
Shoulder rolls and break falls: ![]()
(MONDAY FOR ADULTS) (MONDAY AND TUESDAY FOR KIDS)
Break falls and rolls are an essential set of techniques that will prevent you from gaining unnecessary injury. After learning the basics of the various break falling techniques you should continue to refine your skills and to practice them diligently, then apply them practically durring sparring and self defence. Unfortunately there's no substitute for mat time to develop ones rolls, this is why we do them weekly. Falls and rolls are a scientific way of falling to prevent injury. All students must learn these rolls to better prepare then if they should be thrown or they fall. Falls and rolls are also nesessary in every day falls to prevent injury.
Self defence:
(WEDNESDAYS FOR ADULTS) (WEDNESDAYS AND THURSDAYS FOR KIDS)
The self-defense system that we teach is called Hoshindo, which is the essential roots of Hapkido. It is an internationally recognized system of self-defense training which is known for its extreme versatility and comprehensive discipline of self protection. Hapkido includes an extensive variety of strikes, kicks, joint locks, pressure points, grappling, ground defensives, weapons disarming techniques all used to stop your opponents violence quickly. Our system of self defence is very practical for the real world and will teach the student to "stop the fire with water" Which means that we use leverage techniques to lock up or submit our opponent.
Sparring: (FRIDAYS)
Sparring is a great way for the student to apply their techniques in a non rehearsed senario. All grappling stand up and on the ground is allowed, immobilizations are also incorporated. Kicking and punching is also allowed within our set of rules. We take great precautions to ensure the students safety and implement rules in sparring to protect from injury. This is one of our most challenging, but most popular and fun classes. We are not here to street fight, sparring will simply enhance a students hand eye coordination, and feel for their techniques. Once a student becomes proficient with 1:1 sparring we also teach multi attacker sparring, this system is very inovative and practical.
Patterns:
(FRIDAY FOR ADULTS) (MONDAY AND TUESDAY FOR KIDS)
Patterns (Poomse) consists of the various fundamental stances, blocks, punches and kicks logically arranged in a meaningful order in response to attacks from multiple imaginary assailants attacking you from different directions. Each Poomse consists of an established sequence of movements. All techniques, which are taught in the studies of Tae Kwon Do, are used. Each movement has a purpose as well as a philosophical meaning. Only from infinite practice and repetition, can the student begin to understand the true meaning and nature of Poomse. Balance, focus, coordination, breath control, self-discipline, to name a few, emerges as real benefits of continued form practice. Performed with sincerity and conscious effort, the physical as well as mental and spiritual benefits are only then truly discovered. This is not a form of defence , instead it is a martial exercise to help improve the combative aspects of Martial arts.
Kicking:
(MONDAY FOR ADULTS) (MONDAY AND TUESDAY FOR KIDS)
Our kicking style is precise and to the point. We have over 50 kicks in Hapkido all for different purposes. Hapkido uses science not sport training to preform kicks, that way they will work in a self defence scenario. Students are taught how to hit vital targets to stop there opponents violence. Hapkido also teaches athletic kicks to improve flexability and flying kicks for battle feild scenarios, not sport or 1:1 fighting. We teach positioning and strategy for multiple attackers.
